Dortmund Grevel Water Tower

JOSHUA KING, MILES REAY-PALMER, NATASHA CHABANNE-HAYDEN, JORDAN GIBBS, 2018

The Dortmund Grevel water tower, photographed by Bernd and Hilla Becher in 1965, exists today in a post-industrial, rural landscape to the northeast of the city. The model represents a structural translation from steel to timber, adopting the principle of paired columns and beams to develop a language of prefabricated engineered timber elements, combined with a considered and sparing use of steel fixings.
